Emrah Yucel... A majority of us got to know him as a successful Turkish designer in Hollywood. He has a sign in the posters of many movies we are familiar with, watched and enjoyed. Other than these posters, he has designed web sites, book covers, commercials for printed media and corporate profiles.
Successively for two years he has won KeyArt rewards, known as the Oscar of advertising. His works are displayed in big cities like London, New York and Tokyo. "Iconisus" which he founded in Los Angeles with his partner Stephan Lapp is respected as being one of the largest agents that advertise movies. However, he says "The most important reward for me is my wife's hug and the happiness in my mother's eyes." He dislikes his success story manipulated and told as "an American dream", because he considers himself as a marathon runner for the past 10, hard years. And although currently he is one of the most popular designers of Hollywood, he continues to run.
He thinks the reason of his popularity in the Turkish media is; he works with notable celebrities in an environment most people are attracted to. And this is something that puzzles him. Yucel underlines that there is nothing in real life as "American dream" and he comments "this would only happen in a dream". According to him doing business and succeeding in USA is like running a long, hard, bumpy marathon race. Especially for a person from a different culture like Turkey, USA is "not a fair play ground".
