Television was the beginning of a new era... The days when television was hidden under a lacework in the nicest corner of our houses are not that old. Many changes took place until now... Today, television does not function only as a television. Being integrated with technologies such as computer, DVD and internet, television stands as a digital box before us...

The fact that we can transmit voice through any technological device has been another major step. The pace of adoption of cellular phones by masses, have been turning heads. Turkey and many developing nations were much quicker at adopting the cellular technology than the developed world. It is no longer possible to imagine life and work without the connectivity that cellular technology has brought.

Devices are getting smaller and more portable. Personal computers which are accepted as one of the most important inventions of our era leave their place to portable computers which make life even more simple and portable. As a further step the introduction and widespread use of devices that perform all the functions of cellular phones, computers and internet is already taking place.

New technology trends are portability, mobility and integration of functions. Today smaller, lighter and more functional devices are accepted and used commonly and so every renovated product is smaller and more functional than the former.

Voice and data are inseparable. It is not enough to transmit voice. Devices should be able to transfer video along with voice. It is not possible to do these on a desk. You should meet your needs with the technological devices you own where ever you are. This is one of the indispensable targets of technology.

Formerly every young person was dreaming of Walkman. Walkman which initiated the pleasure of listening to music while walking is leaving its place to MP3 players that have a wide memory of thousand songs and to iPod, a popular device of the recent days.

Another sample is video player... As once a favorite device, video player kept its place under the television for a very long term, until VCD and DVD players appeared around. Since CD's dominate the world of music and cinema, the technology of cassette is leaving us gradually. Another change is in the television technology. The old televisions leave their place to LCD's and plasmas.

While new technologies get ahead of former ones, concepts do not expire but leave their places to the others. Cassette transforms into CD and DVD, walkman transforms into MP3 player. New ones do not appear as the opponents of the older ones, they are submitted as more developed versions to the consumers.

As a conclusion it can be said that every product has a saturation point. And when a product reaches this point it should be renovated with new features, otherwise it becomes useless. New products take its place.

A decade ago Andy Grove, a founder of Intel, anticipated that devices will get smaller by 50 % in every 18 months. He was right. Chips are getting smaller and this reflects to the devices. A more powerful chip can be placed in the same place. That is to say that by one chip many different applications gather together.

In Japan a cellular phone in the size of a watch was produced before 2000. But it was not put on the market since it was too small to use. Cellular phones or other devices can be smaller but they should be in convenient sizes for usage.

At this point "ergonomy" appears as a problem which technology cannot solve. Since our finger sizes do not change and it is not possible to use devices without fingers, engineers are working hard on devices that are commanded by voice. By this way the era in which devices are commanded by voice will begin.

Mobile phones came into being to transmit voice in a wireless environment. In the next step it became possible to transfer information via SMS. The last step is communication via video transmission. Photograph and video transfer via cellular phone is a common application.

In the near future we will be able to watch television through cellular phones. In the far future, the target is to use cellular phones as credit cards and abandon the usage of wallets.
